Your Sun Sign (also called your Star Sign or
Zodiac Sign) is determined by the position of the Sun at the moment
of your birth. It's the sign most people know when they say "I'm a Leo" or "I'm a Scorpio."
In Western astrology, your Sun Sign is considered the foundation of your personality.
There are 12 Sun Signs in the zodiac, each spanning approximately 30 days
as the Earth orbits the Sun. The zodiac year begins with Aries around March 21st (the Spring
Equinox) and ends with Pisces around March 20th.

Unlike Moon Sign or Rising Sign calculations that require precise birth time and location,
your Sun Sign only needs your date of birth. Here's why:

- Tropical Zodiac: Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, which is based on the seasons and the Earth's relationship to the Sun
- Cusp Dates: If you're born on the cusp (the transition day between signs), you might need to check your exact birth year, as the precise date can vary by a day
The Four Elements
The 12 Sun Signs are divided into four elemental groups, each containing three signs:

It's important to understand that Western astrology and Vedic astrology
(Jyotish) use different zodiac systems:
- Western (Tropical): Based on the seasons and the relationship between Earth and Sun. Your Sun Sign is calculated from fixed seasonal dates.
- Vedic (Sidereal): Based on actual star positions. Due to the precession of the equinoxes, Vedic signs are approximately 24° behind Western signs. In Vedic astrology, the Moon Sign (Rashi) is considered more important than the Sun Sign.
