Why Location Accuracy Matters

Panchang calculations depend on precise sunrise and sunset times, which vary by location. GPS provides exact coordinates for the most accurate Muhurat, Rahu Kaal, and Choghadiya calculations, while IP-based location gives approximate city-level accuracy suitable for general purposes. For important events like Griha Pravesh or Vivah Muhurat, we recommend using GPS or selecting your exact city.

Frequently Asked Questions About Panchang

Panchang (also called Panchangam) is the traditional Hindu calendar and almanac. The word comes from Sanskrit meaning "five limbs" — referring to the five elements: Tithi (lunar day), Vara (weekday), Nakshatra (star constellation), Yoga (luni-solar day), and Karana (half lunar day). Panchang is used to determine auspicious timings (Muhurat) for important activities.
Tithi is the lunar day in the Hindu calendar, calculated based on the angular relationship between the Sun and Moon. There are 30 Tithis in a lunar month, divided into Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight) and Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight). Each Tithi has specific characteristics that make it suitable for certain activities.
Rahu Kaal (also spelled Rahu Kalam) is a period of approximately 90 minutes each day considered inauspicious in Vedic astrology. It is ruled by Rahu, a shadow planet associated with obstacles and delays. Starting new ventures during Rahu Kaal is traditionally avoided.
Choghadiya divides each day into 8 periods during daytime and 8 during nighttime. Each period is classified as Shubh, Labh, Amrit, Char, Rog, Kaal, or Udveg. Use Amrit, Shubh, and Labh for starting important work.
Abhijit Muhurat is the most auspicious time of the day, occurring around midday for approximately 48 minutes. The word "Abhijit" means "victory" — any work started during this period is believed to be successful.
Nakshatra refers to the 27 lunar mansions or star constellations that the Moon passes through during its monthly cycle. Each Nakshatra has unique characteristics and ruling deities that influence daily activities.
